My non-running spree continues!
This morning, I took Allison D's Yoga Sculpt class at Corepower Yoga. I thought her class was pretty good, and I would definitely attend again. It was a very traditional Corepower Yoga Sculpt class, following the standard yoga sculpt routine to a "T". It wasn't too crazy crowded or hot either, but I felt like it was a decent workout.
Yesterday evening's birthday C2 (with instructor Chelsea in Uptown) and this morning's sculpt were my first two opportunities to try out my new yoga mat, the Mat by Lululemon .

It was a birthday gift from the D-man, which was definitely needed! My old mat was worn thin, and quite old. It was probably a cesspool of bacteria too!
According to Lululemon:
We engineered this yoga mat with rubber to give us added support and provide cushioning between us and hard gym and studio floors. Let the good times roll.
key features
- cushion your hands and feet with rubber
- the polyurethane coating will stay grippy even through a really sweaty Vinyasa
- the antimicrobial additive prevents mold and mildew
- wash with soapy water (no tea tree oil please)
tech specs
- designed for: yoga
- material(s): polyurethane, rubber, latex
- thickness: 5mm
- dimension: 71" long x 26" wide
- weight: 5.5lbs; 2.5kg
I really like the mat, but my big complaint right now is the SMELL. It gives off a really strong odor. In fact, I felt like the smell followed me to work, after a shower and a change of clothes!
Hopefully the strong smell of rubber/plastic will soon start to fade away, as it's definitely a bit of a distraction right now. But everything else about the mat is great! It's cushiony, a bit bigger than my other one, and it feels a bit more "hardy."
And while I'm on my no-running kick, so is the D-man for now. He went to the climbing wall at Vertical Endeavors tonight, as he recently purchased a year-long membership there. He has been encouraging me to try it out. Soon, I swear! I'm a bit afraid that my upper body strength is not there yet, and I wouldn't be able to climb very far....
Have you tried a climbing wall before? Did you think it was a good workout?
Great posts, Jessie! I went climbing at Vertical Endeavors with Joe. We'd go with you sometime! It's fun. It is a good workout, but very different... for example, my hands and wrists were sore. Anyway, I'd recommend trying it. There are a bunch of different levels of difficulty so you can try various walls/follow different paths on each wall. I stuck to the easy stuff... but it really wasn't too scary once you go up a few times.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips Caroline! I will definitely give it a shot!
