Weekly Recap: The Start of a Lovely Long Weekend...

Happy Saturday! I usually do my weekly recap on Sunday, but I had a little time today to check in with you guys. It's an absolutely beautiful day here, so we're heading to Taylors Falls in an hour to check a few items off of my Summer Bucket List - hiking at the park there, the Franconia Sculpture Garden, and maybe a drive-in!

Have you read my list? Let me know what I missed- I already know that I missed heading to one of the pizza farms discussed HERE. Dustin and I really want to go to one!

Anyways, here's what's happening in fitness this week!

Monday: 4 mile run with Matilda
Tuesday: 4 mile run with Matilda (lots of running with Matilda this week to get her ready for the Fast and Furry 8k next Saturday!)
Wednesday: 1 hour kettlebell/strength class at Balance Fitness
Thursday: 4 mile run with Matilda
Friday: 1 hour barre class at Balanced Barre
Saturday: A little over 7 miles with Kelly and Matilda. This is the longest I have run since the Flying Pig marathon! Its going to be a warm day today, and we were definitely sweaty this morning.

Sunday: Tomorrow, I'm signed up for a barre class at Balanced Barre. Then in the afternoon, it is the Calhoun Beach Running Club 's Memorial Day Pub Run. I think this is the 4th year of the pub run. We missed it one year for Theresa's wedding in Mexico, but I did blog about this fun event last year. You can catch up HERE. The pub run is exactly what it sounds like- we run a little over a 5k in Uptown, stopping at multiple bars along the way for a beer, finishing with a big BBQ party.

I'm not sure I can really count the pub run towards my weekly mileage, but if I do, I suppose I'll be around 20 miles for the week. My legs still aren't feeling all that great, but I suppose its time to "buck up" and start running again seriously, as I have a lot of upcoming races this summer.

What's happening in Fashion?
We went out to Bar La Grassa for Kelly's birthday. I swear, that restaurant is always packed, no matter what night of the week you go! The food is delicious, so I suppose it makes sense that is has remained so popular.

For the dinner, I copied an outfit I saw on seersucker + saddles. I realized that I had the exact same sleeveless top from JCrew that she was wearing here. I loved her look below, so I tried my best to re-create it.

I paired the top with a hand-me-down pink maxi skirt from my younger sister. It's an old skirt from Forever 21, but I think I was able to update it with the belt and top.

Is it called a hand-me-up, if she's my younger sister?

Great dinner with great friends!

What's happening in Fitness Fashion?
Have you checked out Lululemon's beach gear? There's some really cute stuff! Their swimsuits have an athletic look while still cute and feminine. I love the shanti surf cross back top!

I haven't tried any of the beach gear on yet, but I did see that they are carrying it at the Lululemon store at the Galleria by my office. The shanti surf top seems like it would be a perfect top for some stand up paddle boarding this summer!

Well, enjoy the rest of your long weekend.  I'll be checking in periodically and hope to see more suggestions for my summer bucket list!

Weekly Recap and a Rekindled Love for Pure Barre.

What happened last week in the Right Fits' world in Fitness, Fashion, and Fitness Fashion?

Well, let's start with Fitness.
Last week was a pretty solid week in fitness.

Monday: Ran 7 miles in the AM with some friends, Balanced Barre BarreAmped Bootcamp in the evening
Tuesday: Ran 5.5 miles in the AM with some friends, 75 minute yoga sculpt at Corepower Yoga in the evening
Wednesday: Ran 7 miles in the AM with some friends, concert at First Ave in the evening!
Thursday: Complete rest. Happy Halloween!
Friday: Ran 5.5 miles in the AM with Matilda (the dog)
Saturday: Ran 11 miles with the Calhoun Beach Running Club
Sunday: Ran 4 miles with Dustin and Matilda, then barre class at Pure Barre

Total: 40 miles, 2 barre classes, and 1 yoga sculpt (3 strength)

The highlight in fitness this week was actually the Pure Barre class. I used to be a tad obsessed with Pure Barre (as you can read about HERE and HERE), but then I fell off the Pure Barre wagon for a little bit as I tried out other barre studios in the area. Pure Barre recently had a sale on a 5-class package, so I decided to head back there for a little bit. It really took me by surprise on Sunday, as it was a pretty tough class! The teacher incorporated a double exercise band like this one:

That double band was the devil!

We used the band for some of the leg work, core work, and even for stretching, and I felt like it made a lot of the moves quite a bit more challenging.I could feel it today in my abs and thighs, which is always a great feeling.  I took the Pure Barre  class with two girlfriends, one of whom is an experienced barre-ista, and one of whom had never taken a barre class before. I think that the first-timer really enjoyed the class as well! One challenge at Pure Barre is that its sometimes difficult to see the correct form for the moves. They are so small and subtle, its difficult to know if you're doing it correctly. But when you do it right, it burns!

What's new in Fitness Fashion?
I have a few reflective BIC bands that I am loving right now. It’s been in the mid forties on my runs, so I don’t yet need a hat or ear warmers. Therefore, these reflective BIC bands add just enough extra “see and be seen” on the early morning runs.  You can never get enough reflective power. Why not add some to your headband?

You can find them HERE. FYI, in my opinion, BIC bands and Sweaty Bands are both awesome, though BIC bands are usually a few dollars cheaper, while Sweaty Bands offer a bit more variety. These reflective bands are BIC brand. Go check them out!

Fashion:
The highlight this week in fashion was definitely the arrival of my first Stitch Fix, which you can read about here. I’m excited to wear my new polka dot skinny jeans soon!

The rest of my weekend included a date night to see Prairie Home Companion at the State theater, a pre-dinner drink at Marvel Bar, dinner at Bar La Grassa, Dustin’s wardrobe consultation (which I hope to share some more detail about soon!), lots of dog park time, and plenty of housework and errands.

Here's what I wore for running errands:
Sunglasses: Tory Burch- gifted; chambray shirt: JCrew similar, blazer: Banana Republic, find it here, and Banana Republic skinny jeans similar

This pink blazer is my current favorite, (did I mention it has leather patches on the elbows? Love!) I have become such a Banana girl since my wardrobe consult with A la Mode. Move over JCrew, you may possibly have been replaced by Banana!

All in all, it was  lovely week in fitness, fashion, and fitness fashion!

I hope you all had a nice week as well.
What was your fitness highlight???
What about your fashion highlight???

Featured Fit: A Night out with a Special Visitor

By Cool J

My sister came into town on Friday morning for a visit (and to shop 'til she dropped). In fact, she and the D-man spent the entire day at the Mall of America (as I had to be at work). We also shopped Saturday, and more on Sunday. I seriously think my sister may have set a record for hours shopping in one weekend!

But we did have more planned than just shopping, I swear!

On Friday, even after Dusters' and my sister's full day of shopping, we had a full evening planned!
So, first, what to wear?
Tunic: Franscesa's
Necklace: Bahari necklace from Stella & Dot
Purse: Len Druskin Outlet
Leggings: Athleta
Boots: Aubrey Brooke Tayler Riding Boot

Outfit- complete.

Now onto dinner at Bar La Grassa:
And don't worry, we definitely ordered the Gnocchi with Cauliflower and Orange:

...as well as the soft eggs and lobster bruschetta, the charred red onion and goat cheese bruschetta, the cavatelli with braised rabbit, and the mushroom and taleggio agnolotti. So good!

After a scrumptious meal at what is probably one of my favorite Minneapolis restaurants, we headed over to the Brave New Workshop for a showing of "Fifty Shades of White: A Minnesota XXXmas". It was a lot like a Saturday Night Live Christmas special. It was something different, and I definitely will go there again. We had plenty of laughs!

So that was our Friday....Stay tuned for more from Saturday!
