Finalize My Fit Follow-up: BCBG Bonanza/Wedding Recap!

Remember last week, when I posted the four mystery dresses from BCBG, and I asked you to guess out of three friends and me (Kelly, Susie, and Jen) who would be wearing which one?

If you missed it, check out the post here!

Well, this guy got it right!

He credits his wealth of fashion insight and cocktail dress knowledge to watching endless episodes of What Not to Wear! But I'm not sure; maybe he just knows these four ladies really well? Maybe he just pays attention? Maybe he's a thoughtful kind of guy (and yes, he's single. And no, he doesn't usually wear life jackets in public. Unless you want him to.)

Nonetheless, he was right! Way to go! Thanks for guessing.

Here are the 4 dresses again:

Mr. Mason correctly guessed that I would wear the bright fuchsia princess dress :)

I accessorized as follows:

Shoes: Silver BCBG heels

Bracelet: BCBG (similar found here)

Earrings: not shown, BCBG 

Clutch: not shown, silver, from the Limited

He also guessed correctly on the three other dresses!

Here we are in our finalized fits (with an additional BCBG number on the far left too! Love it!)

Dress #1: BCBG Ink and Tan Striped Spaghetti Strap Dress (in the middle above) was accessorized with a gold statement necklace and taupe shoes.

Dress #2:  BCBG Cobalt Blue cocktail dress (on the right) was accessorized with black heels, a black clutch, and a fun, silver necklace.  The below necklace was SUPPOSED  to be the perfect accessory (find it here) but it  broke upon first wear.

Say What? Failed Fit. Must return!

Dress #3 Blue Depth Jersey Christina Asymmetrical Dress (second from left) was accessorized with limited jewelry, just as many of you suggested! The dress spoke for itself. It was paired with black heels and a black clutch .

But beyond what to wear, and what not to wear....The wedding was a BLAST! 

We danced all night, and those perfectly accessorized shoes came off quickly!

We had plenty of fun in the photo booth-

And most importantly, we were so happy to be part of this special night.

The bride and groom make such a lovely couple!

Finalize our Fits: A BCBG Bonanza!

A few weeks ago, I posted about a memorable Fits on the Road in Annandale, MN, where several of my friends gathered to toast our good friend Abby on her bachelorette weekend.

The bachelorette party was a blast, but the main event will be here this weekend! And, of course, this main event was an "excuse" for many of us to purchase new party dresses for the special occasion.

Four of us- Susie, Kelly, Jen, and I- have had a few emails back and forth, discussing said party dresses, and debating how best to finalize our fits.

And we need your advice! I won't tell you who is wearing which dress!  But I will ask you to comment with your tips as how to best accessorize these cute little numbers.

First of all, it's obvious that BCBG is the dress maker for cocktail dresses for women ages 27-36! We all found dresses that fit our personal style at the same store.

Dress #1: BCBG Ink and Tan Striped Spaghetti Strap Dress

This dress can also be worn strapless- a true functional fit! 

So...how to accessorize? 

Black shoes would be classic, but what about a taupe/tan? 

Jewelry: maybe some funky black statement jewelry?

Dress #2: 

This short and sassy number can be finalized lots of different ways.

A bold accent color, perhaps? Maybe red, yellow, or orange? The options are endless.

Shoes: How about silver or nude?

Blue Depth Jersey Christina Asymmetrical Dress

The funky and fun dress is a knock-out! 

It's shown below with black accessories, 

but again, the simple blue color allows for a lot of different accents. 

A burnt orange or red would be perfect for fall, 

but this versatile style could also work in the winter with silver or gold. 

Definitely a functional fit!

Tired Marina Cocktail Dress

With the jeweled neckline, a necklace is obviously a no-go! 

My thought is just a bracelet and earrings.  

Shoes: how about nude? A glittery silver? 

The bronze in the picture would also work.

Finalizing Fits: Black Tie Affair

In an exciting turn of events, my husband and I will be attending a prestigious black tie fundraiser event at the beginning of September. Needless to say, we are very excited, but now I am tasked with finding a new cocktail dress ... and accessories, of course! Unfortunately, I haven't had a spare moment to do any actual shopping -- that will happen this weekend. But, I have had a few moments to begin brainstorming dresses and searching online. Here is what I have come up with so far:

1. Tahari Bonded Lace with Beaded Neckline Dress - $149

4. Max and Cleo Brianna One Shoulder Jersey Dress - $118

I am leaning towards a muted color so that I can add accessories that pop. Since there will be dancing (under the stars to the music of Huey Lewis and the News), the Dorothy Perkins Dress might be too constraining. So many decision and too little time. But at least I am finding a lot of solid, affordable choices. I've set the goal of $250 total for dress, shoes and clutch. Might be underestimating, but I am up for the challenge ... in only 3 weeks! Yikes!!

Finalize My Fit: Vegas Attire Recap

Las Vegas has come and gone, and I haven't yet posted a recap of the attire.

 Las Vegas allows you to wear dresses a little bit shorter, and perhaps a little bit "tackier" than my conservative city. I'm not complaining- it was fun to take some liberties with my outfits for this special weekend.

The zebra dress was definitely "so short I couldn't sit down". The combination of short and tight was a bit of a failed fit for me, as I spent most of the night pulling it down after it crept up as we walked around the Strip.

The silver dress may have also been short, but it was not as tight, so I feel like I could possibly wear it again.

We had a lot of fun over the weekend, dancing, a Cirque de Soleil show, great food, and lots of laughs and memories with all the girls.

A bit congrats to the two brides-to-be! So excited for both you on your upcoming nuptials!

Finalize My Fit: Stella and Dot Party

Last week, a friend hosted a Stella and Dot party at her beautiful home, with beautiful jewelry to peruse and plenty of wine and tasty treats. (FYI, the friend is the lovely writer of Denim and Ink - go check out her blog!)

I had heard a lot about Stella and Dot. LL often says she uses their pieces for inspiration for her necklaces. However, this was my first time at one of the trunk shows.

I was in love! There were so many cute necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings. I could picture all the fun ways I could use the accessories to liven up my current wardrobe.

The hard part is that the necklaces are a little pricier than the ones I get from LL (i.e. free from LL,  versus average price of $100 at Stella and Dot).

Also, I know my husband will read this and state for the 100th time, "You have too many necklaces"...which might be true.  I suppose my necklace hangers are a little full...

(Necklace hangers are handmade by my dad, as LL wrote about here - don't you think he should sell them on Etsy?) Here's what one looks like empty:

Okay, so maybe I do have too many necklaces...But I couldn't resist one particular necklace from Stella and Dot. It was my favorite color (blue), and the other ladies agreed that it was very me, and I should definitely get it- (such bad influences my friends are, aren't they?)

So I took the plunge and purchased this Bahari Necklace

"Three strands of mixed semi-precious dyed jade and acrylic stones drape from shiny 12k gold plated handmade brass chain links and metallic thread"

I'm excited for it to arrive, and can't wait to incorporate it into my attire. Perhaps styled as below, in the warmer months?

Or maybe it will work with this wrapped rushed tee I recently purchased at Anthropologie? 

Red and blue are always a good pair.

I think I can find lots of ways to incorporate the Bahari necklace. 

I'm excited to "finalize my fit" with this new piece!

One other upside to this post?I was inspired to go through all my necklaces....yikes!

And I set aside some I haven't worn in a few years for an upcoming fashion swap that I hope to host in the spring...now the hangers look a little more organized, don't you think?

                                   

Finalizing Fits: NYE Attire (Recap)

A few weeks back, I blogged about my "vision" for what I would wear for NYE, working around my J.Crew Jacquard Gold Mini, which only makes appearances around the holidays. Whereas I did not fully execute the vision that I discussed here, I did get close and was satisfied with the final fit. However, it would have been vastly improve with the Louboutins, but they did not fit the bill this holiday season.

Finalizing Fits: My NYE Attire

As we are nearing New Year's Eve, my husband and I have finally confirmed our plans for the evening, which will require a fancy, festive outfit. I see this as the perfect time to pull out my gold jacquard J. Crew mini-skirt (very similar to the one shown below). I have the tendancy to style this skirt with a plain white top and simple jewlery. But, since it is New Year's Eve, I decided to do all black, with multiple textures and a statement necklace. Below is the look that I am working to finalize by the end of the year.

1. Liz Claiborne Necklace from JC Penny (also discussed here, of which I am now the proud owner)

2. Lottie Lace Top by Juicy Couture

3. Express Metallic Back Seam Tights (for a more sophisticated look) OR

4. Wolford Diamond Texture Tights

5. Christian Louboutin Lady Page 120 Velvet Trimmed Patent Pumps (I'm throwing a fit for these!)

I think that the multiple textures work well for the winter, and the black and gold contrast give it the right evening look. I still cannot decide on the look of the tights - I'm leaning towards the diamond texture - or a clutch. I think that it should be a complimentory color - like a shade of dark red or green.

Finalize my Fit: Post birthday recap

Last night I wore my Topshop dress (as I previously discussed here)- it was a little dressy for the venue, but it's my party, and I can wear a dress if I want to, right?

It was only in the low 50's yesterday, so unfortunately, I wasn't able to pair the dress with the heels I had purchased especially for the occasion...sad.

Instead, I had to go with boots. But sometimes fashion has to follow function my friends. Especially in the midwest. These heels were pretty tall too, and I have a feeling they may have become quite uncomfortable after a long evening out. I will have to save them for another outfit.

Now, truth be told, this picture was taken at the end of the evening...but it's the only one I have of the entire ensemble.

I paired the outfit with an LL original necklace (thanks sister- this necklace has helped me complete several outfits!)

I didn't get a good picture of my purse, but you can see it in this picture:

It's a brown leather clutch that I purchased at Len Druskin a year ago.

I had a woman in the restroom ask me if my dress was vintage. In fact, she insisted it was vintage, even after I told her I just bought it at TopShop. Maybe I should have just gone with it? Though it makes me wonder what it was about the style that made her think that...any ideas?

Help "Finalize" my Fit!

I have a monumental birthday coming up in mid-October...and what better excuse for a new ensemble? I ordered the below dress from TopShop, and now I need your help- how should I accessorize? I'm loving the red belt. Should I go with red pumps? If I wear red pumps, can I still wear tights? What color? It could be chilly, so perhaps brown tights and brown boots? What kind of necklace?
