Featured Fit: New Year's Eve

Cool J in Minneapolis

Welcome to 2013 readers! I could follow suit with all the fitness bloggers out there, and tell you all about my resolutions for 2013, but I won't. I will tell you that one of them is to take rest days, and not feel guilty about it. I'm cozying up with the husband and the animals, and sharing some pictures of our evening last night. And I'm not feeling guilty! Well...I'm trying not to.

I will spare you all my resolutions, but I would like to take the time to say THANK YOU for reading in 2012! LL and I have really enjoyed writing this blog. 2012 was our first full year with the Right Fits, and we have had a blast. We look forward to continuing to share our experiences with fitness, fashion, and fitness fashion with you in 2013. Keep coming back for more!

So back to New Year's Eve: Our friends Susie and Sam hosted a great party last night. I struggled ahead of time as to what to wear, but settled on an old dress you may remember from Vegas (dresses so short you can't sit down?)

Oh Vegas, what a good time we had...
Remember this?

Nothing says New Year's Eve better than sparkles, and this dress glimmered! Flashy enough for Vegas equals flashy enough for NYE 2013, right?

Unfortunately January in Minneapolis is not quite the same as Vegas in April- in terms of the right fits/appropriate attire, and especially in terms of temperature. So I had to tone down this dress a bit. I did so by pairing it with warm leggings and tights, and then topping it off with a bright red bubble necklace.

The party was a blast- good food, plenty of drinks, champagne, games (Battle of the Sexes- women won!), music, dancing, and other shenanigans. A huge thanks to the host and hostess for having us all over! Good times.

 Welcome to 2013!

How does the Right Fits (in Minneapolis) get home safely on NYE?
Things did escalate a bit..as you can see in this picture:
But we had planned ahead. A few days ago, I booked a ride home with "You drink, we drive". This service allows you to drive your car to wherever you want (whenever you're ready), and then they will pick you up at a designated time/place, and drive you and your car home safely. They arrive at the scheduled time with two drivers. One driver will drive your car to your house, and the other driver follows behind. It's a little more expensive than a cab, but it was timely and worth it for us, as cab rides would be difficult to find on NYE.

This party was in the suburbs, so we could have been waiting around for quite awhile for a cab, so this service worked out great for us! I highly recommend it.

Check it out here: http://www.youdrinkwedrive.org

So that's how we stayed safe on NYE. I hope you also stayed safe, and had a great evening.

Here's to 2013 and all the fitness, fashion, and fitness fashion experiences that it will bring!

Featured Fit: Another Holiday Cocktail Party

By Cool J

Did I mention my sister visited Minneapolis last weekend? Oh, of course I did. Multiple times. Like in this post and this post...oh, and this post too I guess. So YES! I have mentioned it, but I love having visitors, especially my sisters! (Hint, hint, LL!)

It turned out that a friend of ours was hosting a holiday cocktail party on Saturday evening. I was told the attire was "cocktail" and that the hosts love any excuse to dress up. Well, isn't that convenient? I also love any excuse to dress up!

I was practical this time around. I didn't go out and buy a new outift; instead, I wore a dress I bought last year (discussed in this POST). I purchased it from "Haute Look," which is one of the online discount retailers (similar to Gilt Group). LL wrote about these online retailers in this post.

This Jessica Simpson dress definitely Fit the Bill- even more so because I'm getting many wears out of it!

Just paired last year's dress with this year's necklace from Anthropologie.
(The Moonstone Treasure Collar- buy it here)

The party was lovely, and it was so much fun for my sister to meet all my friends,
and for my friends to meet my sister!

The men looked pretty fabulous, didn't they? So many Right Fits!
(or, according to one partygoer, "Whatever Fits!")

Our smiles get bigger and bigger after a few glasses of wine....and the wine was bottomless! The appetizers were wonderful, and we had such a fun time.

How about these two awesomely right fits below?
Megg and her man looked perfectly suited together.
Love the outfits!

Megg's dress also fit the bill, for quite a good price.
Find it at PRIMP!
(Primp is located at the Shops at the West End and in St. Paul)

We didn't stay out too late after the cocktail party, as the snowstorm had arrived....but thanks to the hosts for inviting us. It was such a lovely and festive evening!

{Picture from brunch the next morning at Tilia,
which we walked to, in several inches of snow!}

Featured Fit: Holiday Cocktail Party

By: LL
This past weekend was my work holiday party. It was a semi-formal event held at an upscale hotel (the InterContinental) in a ritzier area of Kansas City called the Country Club Plaza. This was an ideal location since this area has an pretty amazing Christmas light display. The venue was beautiful, which was to be expected. The jazz band was excellent - good music and not too loud. And the service was also great. Unfortunately, the food was only so-so. With the InterContinental's reputation, my husband and I were expecting a bit more. Needless to say, it was a nice evening. It did run over a little bit with the executive speeches, but a few of us still managed to make it out on the Plaza for a few cocktails post-party.

Here is a look at what I wore to the event:

{Outfit Details}
Dress: Banana Republic
Necklace: JC Penny (discussed here a year ago}
Tights: Ralph Lauren (TJ Maxx)
Pumps: Aldo

Originally, I had hoped to borrow a very festive dress from Jess. When that didn't work out, I searched for something in a holiday color that wasn't too fancy, but had a little intrigue. The external zipper down the back was just enough visual interest and complimented the necklace I chose quite well. Having 3/4 sleeves was also nice since it ended up being fairly cold that night. I wore a Calvin Klein faux fur shrug over the top with a pair of black leather gloves.
